Wildlife Photography

2009's photography competition was a great success with over 75 enteries submitted. Entries were judged by both Dr. Gary Beilby and the vet school public, with the quality of the photo's making judging a hard task. The winning entries and Gary's honourable mentions can be seen below.

Honourable Mentions:

Taken by Bianca Dekker
Gary's Comment: A 'grab' shot that would have benefited from better lighting - but is an engaging portrait regardless

Taken by Penny Nice
Gary's Comment: A nicely balanced insect macro of a remarkable subject, only let down by image quality

Taken by Brett De Poister
Gary's Comment: A remarkable shot, even though time has not been kind to the colours of the film original.

Taken by Travis Jayson
Gary's Comment: A striking image that exploits intense colour contrasts very well

Taken by Jess Lin

Second Place

Taken by Kathryn Napier
Gary's Comment: Another brilliant portrait; This image deserves second place because it captures pathos of wildlife under human pressure so well.

First Place

Taken by Jess Lin
Gary's Comment: Great wildlife portrait; Excellent subject isolation, powerful colour theme, perfect exposure.  Only failing is colour noise - a minor issue.
